I’ve owned ten or more MMATS amplifiers in my life. Since I first began buying and building my own personal mobile sound systems, MMATS, have always been my personal favorite. I’ve owned so many different mobile brands, each with their own qualities and “stand-out’s”. All of which, when compared to MMATS class D amplifiers, plainly fall short in performance. There isn’t more than two, possibly three amplifier brands, out of the 176 brands I’m most familiar with that compare to the performance and efficiency MMATS has become most famous for. Hands Down’!!, Dollar for Dollar, NO assembly line, mobile audio amplifier brand can boast: “RAW POWER & PURE EFFICIENCY” like MMATS can. Let me explain it like this: When you have two 15″, dual voice coil SPL competition subwoofers, wired in parallel to 0.5 ohm and they are demanding a constant two, three or four THOUSAND, watts RMS, CONTINUOUSLY!!!!, for, 45 straight minutes or more…………….Find another Amplifier brand which can deliver that “two, three or four THOUSAND” watts, RMS at more than 90% without even catching a sweat. Without even getting warm!! – and ultimately tiring and wasting precious power and watts in thermal. The hotter an amplifier gets, the more output is sacrificed. When MMATS claims; “2000 watts at 1 ohm” or lower …. that’s exactly what you’re getting! And more importantly; maintaining as well. This amplifier is ranks much higher than 5 star, But they had to make it fair for other brands to appear in the same bracket category when being rated by consumers, especially if the rank relatively high. MMATS rank off the charts and until you’ve owned one, or had the chance to observe one while performing,… then, don’t make any bets with you’re own money because someday somebody with MMATS in their trunk is going to take it. And you’re going to feel like a dick. Take my word for it, This review was worth the ten-15 minutes i put into writing this review!!

So I wanted a no non-sense amp that was reliable and efficient. I’ve had DLS which is good if you have space to mount a big amp that can warm a small room on a winters morning. US Amps before and after the buyout by RE, they were above average but like the DLS were on the big side and power hungry. I’m talking over 300amps current draw for 1.2k-1.4k. Don’t get me wrong they sounded very smooth and detailed. In my honest opinion Class AB sounds better than class D but with mmats the gap is closed significantly.
A friend of mine owns a JL Audio HD 1200.1 and after hearing the tones that the amp reproduces I think listening to an exhaust would be better. The amp is as suited for sq as a jet fighter good as a commercial plane. Yes, it is powerful in 1, 2 and 4 ohm but it isn’t accurate to say the least and that rosy low bass is absent. It might suit a punchy bass head but not an audiophile.
I approached Mmats because I remember in the early 2000’s men had them under their seats as they were small and they did things to Juggernats that other amps which they could do. I was tired of the heavy big amps that needed excessive current, ventilation and space to be mounted. A baby forced me to rethink my block shaking days and I knew that Mmats had a reputation for power in a small footprint.
I wasn’t convinced about getting a class d amp and thought long and hard about it. I took the plunge and bought the M1400.1 to play on a DC audio level 3 m1. Before installing it I played the class AB US Amps to compare the sound quality factor. First listen was with gains at a minimum. The amp in 4 ohms sounded very close to sound reproduction of the AB amp. Though I could tell the difference most couldn’t. Even a so called high end audio shop in the UK couldn’t. They described the sound as smooth, detailed and powerful. After the listen I told them it was in 350wrms. They couldn’t believe it! When wired in one ohm the amp played so coolly and shook the audio store their demo car’s alarm went off. Everyone was laughing but then a VW across the road alarm went off, that’s when everyone stood in amazement.
Mmats have made a well engineered amp that surpassed all of my expectation. Then there is the size it’s a minnow compared to the mammoth US amps and even the DLS A6. It could be mounted under the drivers seat in a Yaris yet keep cool and get this, the power capacitor was in standby mode the entire time! This amp is impressive in every way. Efficiency is second to none not even Rockford (power series) can even come close. Rockford power amps, might I add are very good but they are living in the shadow of Mmats I’m afraid. In terms of power delivery, size, efficiency and the tone of the amp Rockford come out second best. The M1400.1 is one class D amp I can tell my friends who are audiophiles to audition. I can also tell my bass head friends to definitely get it and not worry about split charging systems, heavy batteries and reduced economy.
